christian conferencing…elder orders

Well, we just returned from the Texas Annual Conference (TAC) of the UMC. I’m ready for a good night’s sleep. Between the meeting, worship, fellowship and such, sleep unfortunately takes a back seat at times. We had a great week. There was a spirit of expectancy that pervaded the gathering due in large part to the work of the bishop and her cabinet in leading the TAC by listening broadly to the present realities of the TAC and its local churches, and then from that listening bringing forth encouragement and crtitique, the imperatives of the gospel and a vision to shape our ministry for the future. That was on Monday afternoon. Much conversation the rest of the week sprang from or came back to the bishop’s address.

Also, this week (last night–Wednesday–in fact) I was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church. My brother and I were both ordained together, which was special. This represents both the end of a journey and the beginning of another–or perhaps a holy pause in the midst of the journey.

  1. Guy, congrats on the ordination! There was never any question as to whether or not you were set apart in my mind. Glad to see the UMC has caught up and made it official. I hope it was a high and holy moment.
