a pastor shares vocational insights

The closing worship service of Annual Conference (Service of Commissioning and Sending Forth) featured one of our DS’s as the preacher. He shared what he learned about his pastoral vocation from reading John’s Revelation early in his ministry:

1. He is called to be a Theologian – one who takes God seriously
2. He is called to be a Poet – one who takes words seriously
3. He is called to be a Pastor – one who takes people seriously

  1. you can read more along these lines from Eugene Peterson’s Reversed Thunder– again a theological-poetic commentary on Revelation.

    don’t you love Jim Welch.

  2. Yeah, JD, he’s great. He was definitely setting off my Eugene Peterson radar–it sounded like he’d been reading something from Peterson.
