poetic thoughts: wedding eve

Wrote this Friday night late, thinking about my good friend Nolan who got married Saturday in Alabama.

Wedding Eve

Tomorrow there are promises
Sacred vows to keep
Hints and hopes and dreams
Trajectories when we speak

Yesterday there were rumors
Of his and hers and theirs
Confirmed by a question
Answered, intimating care

Today stands silently
Holding in its breath
Bridging days, readying souls
For oaths of life and death

Years before and years to come
Collapse time and space
Into a pregnant moment
While standing face to face

Voices intone, lips meet
Sealing with a kiss
Rugged hope and fragile faith–
Love’s pure blessedness
