we’re done for this year

Well it has been enjoyable watching the Astros in the playoffs each of the past two years. Good years they were too. Got our first postseason series win two years ago against the Braves, getting that monkey off our backs. The Braves had beaten us in the first round for several years prior to that season. Came within a few outs of the World Series against the Cardinals. Then last year, avenged that loss in the NLCS against the Cardinals, beating them to go to our first World Series. Truly good times. Unfortunately this season we could never get decent run support for our starting pitchers. We had been pretty bad until a couple of weeks ago when we got on a big roll, one that quite luckily coincided with a big slump on the part of the division-leading St. Louis Cardinals. In fact, if things had worked out for us, the Cards would have recorded one of the biggest meltdowns in MLB history. If not for a couple of big swings of Pujols’ bat in a couple of games, they would be in very bad trouble.

Hate to see it as always, but we’re done for this year. Ah, well. We’ve got a whole off-season to turn into believers again.
