I’m teaching a Sunday School class this coming Sunday (and once more to follow up in a couple of Sundays) who want me to talk about comparing religions and the modern world. The interest, of course, is in addressing the challenges of living in a multi-religious society and in multi-religious world. Religion plays such a powerful role in geo-politics. Religion is the subject of this essay in the current issue of Foreign Affairs, which considers its role in American foreign policy.
To begin with, I thought I’d start with a definition for “religion.” Here’s mine that I’m chewing on. Anyone have another definition? Thoughts on mine?
religion: a set of beliefs, practices, and ethics concerning Ultimate Reality (UR) and our relationship to UR and one another.
