in christ, we don’t get to pick our family

Being adopted by God through Jesus means I don’t get to pick my family members. Everyone’s got a crazy uncle or aunt… except those cousins for whom they are mom and dad, or our parents for one of whom they are either brother or sister. Heck, some of us will be that crazy uncle or aunt one day, if we aren’t already.

Do I like being in the same family with some folks? No. Grace can be embarassing that way.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but here are some thoughts from Duke’s Jason Byassee that motivated me to go ahead and post them in brief now whether or not I get to that lengthier blog about it that’s rolling around in my head.
