“And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12 NIV)
As Jesus taught this prayer, he was teaching about forgiveness with words.
A few years after Jesus taught this prayer, he would teach forgiveness with his life as he gave it for the world on the cross.
Paul said it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV):
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Forgiveness is a foundational pillar for relationships. Our relationship with God is no exception. And Jesus gave his life for our pardon, making forgiveness and reconciliation possible for humanity.
Prayer: God, thank you for the cross. Thank you for the forgiveness you offer in Christ. Help me to share the message of the gospel with my words and with my life. Amen.
